making salted limes

Trying my luck at making some salted lime.. using calamansi lime.
Keeping them to 'jaga pintu' in case of sore throat.
Salted lime makes good remedy for sore throat and for heatiness

Batch 1-4 combined for group pic

And another group pic

And the salt we used red for coarse and green for fine

Trying new recipe for someone with nil cooking skill

I feel I'm more open to try new things nowadays especially when it comes to food. Every weekend, I'm thinking of introducing new foods or drinks to my family (whether they like it will be a topic for another day but so far so ok la...lucky they have taste bud similar to mine..lol)

1. Tried lemon mint lemongrass sour plum (shuen mui) soda ... failed in look as the drink turned out white instead of transparent but luckily the taste was refreshing.

2. Tried garlic herbed potato wedges (oven baked) again doesn't really look inviting, luckily the taste was acceptable and children love it. (ps. who doesn't love potato wedges when you can't have french fries ;p)

3. I know i know this doesn't look good but this is the one i like best. Dip oyster mushroom into flour+corn flour+salt+pepper batter and fried them. The feedback I got was my fire was not big enough and the oil not hot enough thus it's not crispy. Will try again next round

4. Tried basil tomato omelette ... like the combination and makes a healthy breakfast.

I'm feeling hungry as I'm writing this ... some of my food wishlist

chawan mushi
indian coconut candy
otak otak
mieng kam
egg kurma
bibimbap (which I tried and failed earlier)
tan cha tong shui (which last time the ah pak tong sui sell in yulek last time ... i really miss this one)

Would like to say thank you to youtube and to those who willingly share their recipes and cooking videos online ... mean a lot to someone with nil cooking skill :)

my daily dose of vitamin N

I guess I'm not cut out to be a city girl aunty
I think I have vitamin N deficiency & need high daily dose of vitamin N(ature) for me to function well, else I'll feel lethargic and fatigue all day long.
But it's kinda not-that-easy to find a decent spot that can offer genuine vitamin N, so sometimes I just make do with whatever-I-can-find or placebo vitamin N.
Making full use of the 'solo' time of 15-20 minutes of time before start work (if I arrive early) to 'sit down & relax' before the start of another hectic day.

So here I'm hanging out on to the last available dosage of vitamin N within my reach.

Here, trying to avoid those concrete jungle sky scrappers getting into the picture, but futile attempt

A rare glimpse to boost vitamin N effeciency

Here, trying to cheat with some 'placebo'

To add salt to injury, reading a naturopathy book that emphasize on the importance of vitamin N

At least, this is a consolation, enjoying a custard apple from my backyard for breakfast

easy yummy fully happy banana pancake

I'm no good at cooking (this is a known fact...LOL)
but I found something totally edible no matter how bad a cook I am
banana pancake with only 2 ingredients needed
banana + eggs
1. Got some ripe bananas for RM0.99 from reduced to clear .. the riper the better more banana'ish sweet taste
2. cut the banana and smash using fork till puree (like for baby food)
3. beat 2 eggs (here I use telor kampung)

4. mix the banana and egg together and beat again to mix well
5. spread some oil / butter on the stove (I use butter, more yummy and smell nice)
6. pour the mixture into the pan and wait for them to cook. determine how small / big you want your pancake be.

7. Can eat just like that or with banana slice / honey / yoghurt / ice cream (we had it plain because it was already banana sweet. (okay I admit my end product look more like fried egg than pancake)
1st time my kids say I can cook nice food :D
can't wait for making the next batch.

it has been a long week

Working for full day yesterday (on a Saturday), I felt very tired.
I'm getting old these days.
But despite the exhaustion I'm glad I managed to slot in some personal 'achievement'
I managed to tidy up my office space (some 50%)
I managed to finish up to 50% of the book (My favourite wife) I'm currently reading
I managed to eat something that's heavenly ... Sago with santan & gula melaka

So despite the gruel of working on a Saturday, I managed to turn it into a more pleasant one...
So it's true that they say : Every cloud has a silver lining.
It's just that sometimes we have to look harder.

Precious : coconut water

with this, I'll start my sporadical periodical flashback on my 怀孕 旅程.

I couldn't tell you more how I'm obsessed with young coconut water even before I reaches 3rd trimester of pregnancy ... for it was the only luxury, the only indulgence I could afford (thanks to gestational diabetes I had).
I could go on a 'coconut water spree' and 'coconut hunt' without being questioned..haha
I discovered that coconut water is like chocolate, people (read: I) can get addicted.

As a proof of how bad was my addiction was :
On the late afternoon of the day I gave birth, with contraction of 5 minutes apart (painful contractions mind you), I still have the 'mood/energy/motivation/whatever it takes' to go Tesco to get those 'tender young coconut' selling at RM2.09 / RM2.19 each.
The price differences you noticed? It was price of the precious commodities 'coconut' @ Tesco at different days / weeks. Yes, I'm that obsessed that I stalk the 'coconut fella' and survey almost all stores selling coconut within 5 km in my neighborhood.
Looking back,I didn't know how the hell did I manage to limp around with painful contractions and back pain in Tesco, stopping every 5 minutes (pretending to see things when bitting teeth to tahan pain) just to buy 3 biji of coconuts that I didn't even get to consume....because I 'pushed' that particular night.

lol...such is the power of the 'COCONUT'

weekend nourishment

I realised I've changed a little .. I used to be very lazy and 'tidak apa' when it comes to nourishing (补) my body.

Nowadays, if possible, I take initiative to prepare or eat something nourishing / nutritious for myself. Perhaps age is catching up and 'engine' already start to need maintenance.
Last weekend, out of nowhere, I miraculously prepare this ...
the white fungus - they say it poor people bird nest, so since I could not afford bird nest .. I settled for 2nd best =)

Not bad ya...since after cook can use to 'buy' my mother in law & ku po's heart =p hehe
