Kelana Jaya Putra LRT station - McDonald near Masjid Jamek LRT station
I was waiting for LRT at Kelana Jaya ( last terminal) when an old man sat next to me.
He asked me while pointing to the prepaid ticket he's holding (ticket printed with route of putra LRT - all station)
old uncle : if i travel here to the end and go back to KL Sentral, how long does it takes? 1 hour? me : I'm not sure wo ... could be lo. you want to have a look around KL night time is it? (aiya, i banyak mulut lo)
old uncle : I'm waiting for time to pass. I'll need to go to KL Sentral later.
the LRT arrived, I wanted to leave him but then I saw he was quite slow and struggling with his rectangular trolley bag (later I got to know he's about 70 years old)
the LRT was quite empty, I sat down and he sat next to me.
old uncle : I sat there at KL Sentral for very long, the guard ask me why sit there for so long.
he gave me this prepaid ticket (which is something like staff prepaid card) and ask me go take a ride round and come back to KL Sentral
me : why u sit there for so long?
old uncle : I thought I lost my pouch (which contain my wallet & identification) thus I went to the police station to make report. The police called my daughter, then only realised I actually left the pouch in my daughter's car. My daughter is coming to fetch me, hopefully the police can send me to KLIA. The police refused to send me to airport asking me to cari jalan sendiri, tengok ada orang Sabah ... boleh minta tolong. Although we are from East Malaysia, they should also help us.
my daughter study medicine UUM (if i remember correctly) and now doing housemanship in Kelantan (i forgot the hospital name liao). Housemanship is taking so long and she's earning very low only. she's specialising in gynaelogy & obs. Although there are lesser chinese there, but there are very friendly. In KL, I see the people rush in and out. All looking very stressed.
me : ya...this is big city and everyone move at fast pace. people here are not so helpful during to the crime rate here very high. everyone is safeguarding our own security.
old uncle : in sabah, we are not like this. maybe because we live in small town.
me : wa, u have a very brilliant daughter. you are sure very proud of her
old uncle : only she and another son can study, the two elder sons not so. maybe because when they young, they always follow my father out to the sea, that's why never concentrate on study lo. Their mother passed away when they are young so my daughter is very close to me.
old uncle : You are going home from study? how come so late?
me : me no more study lo.. working already. I looked like student is it?
old uncle : work.. I thought you are still studying. (in my heart...how i wish) why work till so late?
me : this one is do part time wan uncle. When still young, must 'pok sat' then only able to enjoy good life like you ma
old uncle : if my elder sons think like you, good loh. they are now helping me with my 'seafood' farm. we have lobster as well and doing small time export to taiwan. In taiwan i know my way, I'll not get lost in KL wan.
me : lobster...those big expensive prawn?
old uncle : in sabah, that's a good business ... well known for seafood. I'm staying in tawau. have you been to sabah?
me : next time, me and my friends planned to go climb mount kinabalu wo
old uncle : you come look for me. I can show you around tawau. the island in sabah very beautiful. not polluted. like the one you read in the newspaper ... pulau sipadan.. but now the use of raft (he describe something, but i can only imagine something like raft) not allowed due to last time 'Abu Syawaff' case.
you know, sabah also very well known for pearls (PEARLS - my fav ah) some cultivate pearls.
they are very cheap. the better quality wan..selling 20 cents-50 cents 1 small biji, the so so one selling few cents. lots of people buy and make bracelets, necklace, earrings.
me : really? ( i knew it is true ... as mentioned in earlier blog .. my friend liana's boyfriend got some pearls accessories from east m'sia at cheaper prices too )
then we passed by KL Sentral
me : uncle, later this is where you have to get down ya
old uncle : don't afraid .. just now I was here waiting before the guard ask me go 1 round. the malay guard very nice. he saw me sat there all day, he gave me 2 piece of goreng pisang and ask me use his travel card. he told me to use it to travel 1 round on LRT.
me : uncle, kl got lot of ppl cook up story and ask people for money (yet I'm falling into one myself, sigh) that's why we are scare.
old uncle : Even I had nowhere to sleep also...I'll not ask for money
me : so when are your daughter coming?
old uncle : in police station, she told me latest tomorrow morning ... she is booking the next available flight.
me : then how are you going to contact her?
old uncle : I'll go to the information counter at KL Sentral
me : are you hungry? there's some place to get some food near masjid jamek. (dunno la, why I go ask that question? )
(I think I didn't want to give him money but at the same time wanted to help if he's genuine)
old uncle : I just had 2 pieces of goreng pisang since afternoon given by the guard
me : I'll buy you something to fill your stomach
old uncle : I feel 'mm hou yi si' to trouble you
me : it's ok

cheated? .... part 2
we got down at masjid jamek putra lrt station.
he was a bit slow & fragile although he's strong for his age.
me : you need me to help you? (when i see him struggling with his luggage and I'm walking so fast...he's lagging behind)
me : uncle, later you know how to take lrt back to KL sentral from here? you must go this side ya.
old uncle : no need, i can't still manage.. you go ahead first. we used to work hard so we are still strong. we sometimes eat wild pork meat ... there's a lot near the forest near our house.
me : we just go near near ... got one Mcdonald. uncle, u eat fast food or not?
old uncle : anything will do
on the way to Mcdonald, he actually stepped into a poddle of water when I avoided it.
me : uncle, why you step into the water? I walk too fast is it?
old uncle : no la, uncle eyesight at night no good, can't see clearly ... dunno there got water
at that moment, i actually feel tint of 'guilt' for leaving him behind
me : then have to be careful n follow me lo
strange habit, he actually carried his luggage with both of his hand behind instead of using the trolley function of the bag. may be he finds it faster this way
in Mcdonald
me : uncle, I'll order for you. what you want to eat?
old uncle : you order lo .. just a little bit of things to fill stomach will do for uncle
me : uncle, you go look for a sit first, i go order
old uncle : have to go down? up here no more place? (masjid jamek mcdonald have to go down for more tables)
me : up here no more place wo, so have to go down lo. you sit where you like. i'll look for you.
I order 'Filet o' Fish' regular set for the uncle.
nothing for myself, at home pasar malam has lots of things to eat
me : uncle, come eat la
old uncle : how come you don't eat? uncle don't feel good ... uncle eating..u not eating
me : nevermind uncle, you eat ... at home got leave rice for me
old uncle : really thank you very much
me : smile ( i could see that he's hungry as he's eating very fast and sapu everything.... now i recall that i actually forgot to take tomato & chilli sauce for him)
old uncle : you take out a pen and paper. I give you my address and contact in sabah and my daughter. if next time, you come to sabah you can look for me. I'll tell my daughter about you so that when you contact her she'll know you.
( he did gave me his address in tawau, his handphone number and his daughter handphone. I do not know whether it's a fictitious address & number or real. I had not dialed both the number)
according to him, he's daniel lee and her daughter is Dr. Doris Lee
as it was getting late, it was about 9.10 pm and I had to take bus home
me : uncle, later you know how to walk back there to LRT station or not? you need me to bring you there?
old uncle : i know how to go back there. you have been very kind already. you need to go now is it?
me : very sorry uncle, it's getting late. I'll have to go first. you be careful ya
old uncle : remember, if you are going home late, call home to let your parents know
me : yes, uncle. nice meeting you. later you be careful ya
old uncle : better go..it's late already and keep the address properly ..
me : bye uncle, take care
actually now when i think back, i realised there are many things that should be suspicious, but don't know why i buy into his story during then.
till now, i could not determine the authenticity of this old man.
at times, he seemed to be genuine, at times may be not
if he's not genuine, then I'm so easily 'tipu'ed
if he's genuine, then I'm happy that I was able to help someone in need
Either way, I hope I learnt my lesson well
what do you think? is this old man a 'trickster' trying to get easy money (or meal in this case) or it is just he's having a 'bad luck' day?

1001 wish
lyrics of the song literally translated =)
tomorrow is like a box of chocolate
what's the taste, full of imagination
hope is like a telephone number you can't get through
try more times, there will be response
lots of wishes in the heart
future is stsrting to shine bright
no matter how high is the sky
tip toe and you are nearer to the sunlight
i make my 1001 wish
one day, happiness will come to me (literally ... listen to me)
i'm not afraid of how much time it take, how much sacrifice i'll have to make
youth is my bet (asset)
i make my 1001 wish
one day, happiness will come to me
every heart has a pair of wings
be brave to fly forward
there's no place u can't go
haha...hope the meaning didn't run =)

lately me happen to pay attention to lyrics of this songs by this all-girls group 4 in love
meaningful =)

Mini Financial Planning Workshop
Dear all,
Having discovered the beauty & importance of Personal Financial Planning
(and I'm still discovering),
I find it very useful and beneficial to young people like us.
I believe everyone of us have many goals that we would like to achieve in life.
I consider myself lucky to have gained exposure to Personal Financial Planning
and experience how it can help me to achieve my life goals.
Somehow I realised Personal Financial Plannning is related to us one way or another.
I couldn't help but to want to share this with my loved ones & friends.
It is with this, that I approached my Group Agency Manager and the
management of SBB Mutual to have a workshop session for sharing with my friends.
Seeing my enthusiasm & sincerity,
not only they gave the 'green light' but back me with full support.
I truly believe the greatest gift a person can give to friends, is information on how to financial plan their life goals.
It is with this similar intention that I would like to extend this invitation to you to
attend this workshop (no need to pay wan lah) but do confirm your attendance.
I do encourage you to take up this invitation as opportunity may not come twice.
Give yourself the opportunity to learn about Personal Financial Planning.
Again, I hope my team's effort and sincerity is of great use to you.
" Someone's sitting in the shade today
because someone planted a tree a long time ago "
"PLANT YOUR SEEDS NOW !!"

sodium nitrite
sodium nitrite - please don't ask me what it is?
as of now, I have no idea (yaloh, chemistry kept in peti harta karun dasar laut already =P
but that's not the main focus here
recently I bought a can of pork lucheon meat ( cantonese : 5 chan yok )
there was a small leaflet attached to it (usually they don't)
It read :
popularyly used in smoked, slated meat & pork lucheon meat, sodium nitrite is a preservative which can improve the colour & taste of the meat, but it will be decomposed into Amine Nitrite which is likely to cause cancer.
if eating too much, it will destroy the blood function in carring oxygen & cause breath debility
(off course, they also describe how they make the meat in such a healthy way)
language aside, now they are telling (me) this after (I) have consumed it for so many years
with or without sodium nitrite, I think I'm still eating
what that may bother me is JE, for we never know where the meat came from

"yao char koay"
'yao char koay' - those that people eat for breakfast or those that we eat together with "bat kut teh'
wonder how this delicious food got its name? =P
'yu char koay' in hokkien literally translated as 'deep-fried devils'
also known as 'crullers' in english
Find this story fascinating, here's how it goes :
this snack was first made by chinese during Song Dynasty (960 - 1279) to reflect their anger against then PM Qin Guei & his wife after they influenced the emperor to pass a death sentence on patrtiotic general - yue fei
the people came up with the idea of shaping dough into 'pairs' before frying them to symbolise the cooking of the couple in hot oil.
(no wonder yao char koay always come in pairs..haha..)
off late has not eaten any 'yao char koay' but every time when pass by stalls selling them (most of the time in market) - sure will think of this story.
well, it also reflected how they are many ways people vent their anger or frustration.

go through the lyrics
I discovered this song on the radio lately
by a local budding singer, yet to release his full album
but I find his song (this in particular) very meaningful
normal - rap in cantonese
violet - sing in mandarin
Love and Freedom
Set Me Free
Repeat *

Set Me Free
Repeat *

"Shutter" & "Aitraaz"
Shutter
the movie I watched with chai yee today. Overall a fine movie for thai production.
it touched 'something' which is very true and it makes me think (although plot quite predictable). The story was unfolded in a particular detailed way.
( actually I'm feeling a bit uneasy while typing this .. ^^! ) because it makes me think of some of the scenes.
let's switch focus then ... to the good looking hero especially his eyes during close up. however his deed in the movie is not so commendable.
Aitraaz
this movie I'm interested to watch. Aitraaz can be literally translated as 'objection'.
yup, a bollywood movie akshay kumar, priyanka chopra n kareena kapoor (no idea who is who). What's so interesting?
it tackles the issue of man wrongly accused of rape : inspired by a case of South African judge who was wrongly accused of rape during World Social Forum meeting in Bombay.
pondering into issues such as whether even consensual sex can later be called rape, and whether that women can now take advantage of the law for their own benefit.
"Aitrazz" ?

"winter" cleaning
We did some "winter" cleaning yesterday (or should we call it rainy season cleaning)
cleaned the aquarium, cleaned the sofa, cleaned the floor, cleaned the car, cleaned the room, cleaned the racks, cleaned the altar, cleaned the garden, cleaned the PC, cleaned my brain ...
has not really tried doing so many cleaning in a day... muscle a bit sakit but it was fun =)
like doing gotong royong with family.
still i like the last cleaning of the brain the best =P
but don't think it's clean enough =P
oops ... I think I heard my father said " We'll have one more round before Chinese New Year"
err.... I think I want to keep things clean from now till coming Chinese New Year so that we don't have much to do then =P

romanticca
He grabbed the mike and announced
" I want to dedicate this song to my dear wife "
" I have many things to say but I just want her to know I love her. She's very precious to me "
" Having her as my wife is one of the best thing ever happened to me "
and he sang Alex To's song - Tian Zhen (literally translated - naive)
his voice tremble, he is nervous but to her, he's great
she walked towards him ... brimming with happiness
she embraced him
they shared their stories - how they met, how they fall in love, their ups & downs, their future plans together
Suddenly, everyone seemed to be moved by this loving couple.
All of us stopped whatever we are doing listened very attentively.
We wish them well.
and yes, we're at my friend's wedding dinner.
yet, we didn't know our shy & timid friend is such a loving husband =P
love can make someone do things they never knew they could ... and yes, the bridegroom agrees
It's a memorable evening and a sweet wedding dinner.
Never mind that we have to go back to work on Monday (the wedding dinner was on Sunday evening)
We really wish you well ... willis & felicia =)
