why do stars twinkle?

why do stars twinkle?

because it is a long long journey =)
stars twinkle because their light has to pass through several miles before it reaches the eyes of an observer
remember last time in physics we learn about 'pembiasan' =)

eg. how a coin at the bottom of swimming pool seems to wobble from side to side?
similarly, stars twinkle because their light has to pass through several miles of earth's atmosphere before it reaches our eyes.
It is as if we are looking up at the universe from the bottom of the swimming pool

modified from "ask the expert" column - The Star, Sunday 20/11/05

if got time, try looking at the sky for stars, you'll find them smiling & twinkling their eyes at you ;)
