oh my precious ...

These items are slowly becoming my precious ..

MENA - my favourite complete line of skincare and make up brand.
GSP - the jewellery outlet I frequent to buy jewelleries for myself & loved ones.
Vietnam - my next holiday destination.

I've just turned myself into a materialistic girl going for the most expensive brands, buying make up and skincare, buying jewelleries and going for holidays on debt without a little inch of regret.
Oh... you may not have any idea what have I become. The problem is neither do I.
Can someone tell me why?

If the above paragraphs got you thinking? Please keep reading.

MENA ie. Middle Eastern and North African countries. Many local investors (funds) are diversifying into MENA region. We shall explore the push and pull factors in a moment.
- Economic growth spear headed by oil revenues and increasing demand
- Increasing FDI (Foreign Direct Investment)
- Undervalued markets - valuation is attractive.
- low correlation to world markets
- Infrastructure development by government is massive and expanding
- strong future domestic demand from population growth (100 million population - half is below age 20 thus large emerging consumer market, labour force. & every male is required to provide a house before marriage .. talking about real estate)
- under researched region / market
- high market capitalisation & turnover
(Modified and simplified from various sources primarily MENA related funds)

Just one thing, please don't ask to point where these countries are on a world map / globe. Most probably I'll never be able to cause I'm utterly useless in geography =p

GSP ie. gold,silver, platinum
There are 2 ways here - we either go for the precious metal itself OR into equities / funds of companies engaging in the upstream & downstream of activities related to these precious metals.
- To diversify portfolio (negative correlation with other asset classes & show lower volatility in cycles)
- Hedge against currency
- New demand - spur by renewed interest by investor
- Central bank activity - Asia underweight vs US & Europe
- Rising demand and decreasing / stagnant supply (gap) - discovery rate slowed.
- commodity switching (oil to gold)
- ETF for GS is gaining demand
- Platinum - supply constrained, demand growing as is used as auto catalysts to reduce emissions.
(Modified and simplified from various sources primarily GSP related funds)

VIETNAM ie. Vietnam
is said to be the 'Next China'
- steady GDP growth
- export sector - healthy & blooming. world largest exporter of pepper, 2nd largest for seafood, rice & coffee.
- Underdeveloped consumer market
- Rapid FDI (some restrictions uplifted)
- work force in abundance - quality and cheap
- banking & financial sector penetration low - infancy stage - only 6% of population have banking accounts - tremendous potential.

(modified & simplified from various sources of Vietnam related funds)

Hopefully i think i had made the right selections, and oh, the part where I mentioned about debt... Do not invest on debt. It is never a wise thing to do. Invest only with the extras.

a lil in gold coin / nugget itself and in feeder fund that feeds into Ireland based DWS Noor Precious Metals Securities (which also feeds into ETFs)

Please do share with me more on kijang emas gold coins/savings passbook =)

ETF ..has yet to venture directly into it. Am still learning more. Have you gone into any? please do share

I have not personally invested but will share what I know.

Kijang emas/ gold savings passbook are products offered by Maybank. You can check them up at www.maybank2u.com.my. Looking at the spread, I think the gold coins are better although you have the issue of keeping them safe and secure.

ETF - I know there is a gold ETF listed on the Spore Stock Exchange. You will need to set up a trading a/c though.

This fund that you are buying into, is there a sales charge? Is it open to the public? Where can I find details?

Thanks for sharing, I've read thru but imho, it's good for people who may not want the hassle of safekeeping or do not have safe deposit box. But of course there's a price to pay =) for those who have safe deposit box, my as well just keep those gold coins there.

Do you intend to set a trading a/c, I'm still new to ETF so may like to learn more from you.

It's AmPrecious Metals where 95% of NAV invested into DWS Noor Precious Metals Securities. Entry fee 5% of NAV, exit fee 1% NAV if redeemed within 90 calendar days, annual mgmt fee 1.8% NAV, annual trustee fee 0.08 NAV. unit price RM1.00.
It's unit trust - feeder fund - open to public. to know more http://www.ammutual.com.my/ - under funds & facilities - fund - AmPrecious Metal.
