for people who can't really read all chinese characters, try this extension called chinese perakun. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3349
since i found it i rely on it to read all chinese words, helped me learn many many chinese words
install it on his firefox, there is a version for firefox 3 which is working already so there is no worries that it won't be compatible then you can force him to read it himself and understand :)
