Shopaholic Anonymous

Hi I'm Su,
I'm a shopaholic.
It's nice to be here in this group.
I wish to share with you how I started .....

When I was younger, I always looked forward to weekends because that's when my parents will bring us for shopping a.k.a family day.
Both my parents are working thus I don't get to spend much time with them during weekdays.

As I grow older, I began to know the value of hard earned money. I know my parents have been working very very hard to provide for the family. It was then I learnt to compare prices before making purchases. I do not know when this concept of 'great deals come with great efforts' came and stay in my mind.
I always go for the best deal ... which translate naturally to me as 'the cheapest'.
It didn't help that I can remember most of the prices of the items I'm keen on buying ... yes, to the exact cents and start making comparisons.
So, I will keep buying and buying whatever deem cheap ... thinking I've got a great deal and stock up.
Who knows, there may be no offer when my home supply finishes
Who knows, the price of the item may have increased by the time my home supply finishes

Although people around me kept advocating to me the importance of quality over cheap price, I still have the tendency to go for cheaper price... but I've improved alot thanks to my dad and dear who constantly remind (nag) me.
At least now I don't compromise the quality for cheap prices.

I'm just as easily attracted by freebies, discounts and vouchers.
I think I'm one of the easiest target for marketers.

Things just got worse when I started taking over responsibilities of replenishing household items and groceries. I've always got a reason to shop, be it to buy things for myself, for my family or for someone else.

I've been silently killing my financial standings with the purchases on 'credit' struggling and sweating to pay off my debt.

Those days, I would go for shopping alone mostly at hypermarkets and carry loads and loads of items back to my car.
I've carried 5L washing detergent with 2 or 3 more plastics full of things.
They were heavy but I was happy.
Happy because I've got great deals and I've brought home something for my family.
I know my parents have their own problems to deal with so I didn't want to bog them down with small matters like these.

I also find comfort and solidatary in walking around in hypermarkets surveying prices and enjoying the air cond.
Watching parents bringing their children to shop remind me of my fond memories.

It was the 'feel good' factor that brought me into this ...
Now, I wish to change. To be a better person.
What I may have done in the past may be wrong, but all I ask for now is just a chance
... a chance to make things right
... and your continuous support to last me through

Cost of giving birth to a baby

Yesterday, wasn't clear what lead us to this discussion...

One of my collegue mentioned that
cost of giving birth to a baby = RM30k

Me : hah? Just the cost of delivery alone is RM30k ah?

Collegue 1 : got complications or additional procedures is it?

Collegue 2 :cost of making the baby included lah, you know..you know making the mould ^^! (gesturing the shape of a mould)

Collegue 3 : yalor..you think making the baby to be delivered no need money meh? Not cheap one ah.

About 50-60% of my collegues in office are parents, thus I get to learn alot of things from them.
btw, collegue 1(f),2(m) and 3(m) are all parents... so you think I should believe what they say?
Oh... yes I do =p

up close & personal

catch a glimpse of my personal collection of flower potraits taken from Bukit Tinggi =p hehe

Lesson I learnt :
A flower by any name is still a flower.
A flower by any colour is still a flower.

Smart Kid

Little Becky looked at her mother one day and asked, ‘ Why are some of your hairs white, mummy?”
Her mother replied, “well, every time you do something wrong and make me unhappy, one strand of hair turns white.”
After a pause, Becky asked, “Mummy, how come all of grandma’s hairs are white?”

A conversation between big boss and his secretary (PA)

PA : Do wrong already mai do again lor…why so angry

Boss : Not angry lah…… continue mumbling to himself

PA : You do wrong things, your wife got scold you or not?

Boss : She can cope…used to it already, else how to last for so long

PA : yalor, do wrong already, then do again lor … why need to scold?

Boss : I read quite a number of those relationship book… I’ve just completed one

Another staff : Then your wife got read ah?

Boss : She don’t read one. Most of the time, I’ll tell her and she just listen. My wife is very understanding and forgiveful, this I must say.

PA : then you are lucky lor.

Boss : Both parties must put in effort for a relationship to work.

Big boss is a family man. A traditional man whose family values comes first. He’s a loving husband (judging from the overseas trip photo which he shares with us).

He’s humble and down to earth even when he’s where he’s now in the organization.
I have great respect for this man.

Bukit Tinggi - Now & Then

People change almost everyday, what more places.
Have a look at Bukit Tinggi now and about a year and 2 months ago..

Then, we were still new in the relationship... thus we slept on different beds

Now, we are much more closer and comfortable with each other....we slept together on king size bed.

Then, the trees are tiny...maybe about knee height.
Now, the trees are as tall as me

Then, at the japanese waiting house, a scary girl awaits you

Now, at the japanese waiting house, 4 sweet young ladies await you

Then, if the rabbit was afraid, I was more afraid of hurting this little vulnerable cutie.

Now, I think we both have more confidence and trust in each other.
ps. I really adore this photo (which I seldom do), I think it really captures my emotions (of happiness) at that moment. And one of my friend say that she like my hairstyle in this picture ... can be billboard advertisement for shampoo =p wakaka....
Then, I used to like to 'depan mari' ... wakakak....

Now, I think I like 'belakang mari' better =p wukaka....
ps. ok lah, just in case you are wondering... the above depan mari and belakang mari photo also taken on the latest trip on early Nov 07.

and this will be my all time favourite
Then & Now
Bukit Tinggi & anywhere
but then hor, all I get to eat is this beautiful piece of poster =p

Congratulations to Judith & Tan

Watched a movie before going to sleep… I have a vision of going for exercise at Tasik Permaisuri with dear.
Woke up at 7am and headed to Tasik Permaisuri, completed 2 big rounds and replenish the calories with Nasi Lemak and 2 roti kosong.

Went home, took bath before going to Berjaya Times Square.
I made dear promised me to bring me to Popular Bookfair on 3rd floor at Berjaya Times Square because the penguin warehouse sales is too far for me (as sms by Craprant)
We were there, walked through the entire 3rd floor but cannot see a single book.

Dear : Aiye, dear bluff me, also no book fair here wan.

Me : Got lah, the popular website say got. You also saw at the website ma, no meh?

Dear : Then how come no book fair wan? Is it Berjaya Times Square or Times Square in Johor ah? Got see properly kah?

Me : Berjaya Times Square wor… Johor also have same name wan ah?

Dear checked the website through his handphone while I selecting clothes. When I came out of the shop, my dear walked towards me smiling sheepishly.
I thought he already knew where is the book fair…it could be on another floor.

Dear : This dear dear ah, purposely ask me come to book fair because she wanted to come out shopping. No need to use book fair wan, if dear dear want to go shopping, I sure bring her out wan.

Me : No lah, me really thought got book fair and wanted to buy book lah dear

Dear : See here (dear pointing to the website and the date, it says 16/10/07 – 21/10/07)

Me : Aiya, why selalu kena tipu wan?? =p hehe you also kena tipu ah… I let you see the website mah before we go out…hehe…

But guess what, I’ve got a better deal, I got 3 of the book I wanted to buy at the price of 2 at Borders...phew..just plain lucky.

We then walk over to Low Yat Plaza to change the ink catridge and had lunch at Old Town Kopitiam.
The 2 of us order 4 dishes and walloped all within minutes =p
It was really sweet of dear that he remember that there’s a book fair at Low Yat Plaza too…
But soon we found the book fair was a few racks and tables of books… they ironic thing is …all the books are in Chinese and both of us doesn’t know a single word =p

After lunch we decided to walk back to Times Square before going home as both our legs are tired of walking since morning. We walked a bit in Times Square before paying for parking.
Dear inserted the parking ticket into the auto pay machine, I saw the price : RM9.00.
I literally shouted...

Me : Wah, so expensive geh? Not max RM7 meh?

Dear : Change already wor…here write weekend max is RM10 woh

Me : Dear, let’s continue shopping loh, don’t want go back first… ( I couldn’t believe I said this at that moment just because I don’t want to pay RM9 for parking and wanted to overstay and over-utilized the RM10 max. (BTW, this is just one instance of my ‘oh bah sang’ness…kakaka.. )
I regret saying ‘dear, let’s continue shopping loh, because we basically shop till we ALMOST dropped that we actually wanted to go for reflexology at night.

Dear : OK, I bring you go Pavilion, we go eat DONUTs ( dear must be blur blur at that time to agree, some more want to walk to pavilion from Times Square.

So we walked all the way from Berjaya Times Square to Imbi Plaza to Sg Wang to Lot 10 to KL Plaza to Pavilion

Reached Pavilion, walked from bottom to top floor and back to ground floor.
Ended up in a Chinese Medicine Hall in Pavilion and admiring scallop and dried sea cucumber.
Actually we were sitting there to enjoy the seat and the air cond while discussing whether to buy the dried sea cucumber which cost about RM60 per 100 grams.
Of course I bought one of my fav ‘Guiling Gao’ – 6 for RM6.70 (the only cheap thing in the shop)

We walked to some more high class shops ‘selamba’ly and saw a lot of interesting things. Basically, we were enjoying window shopping relaxingly while enjoying each other’s company.
Unabashedly took myself some book marks from TITTOT shop selling crystal carvings (another example of my ‘oh bah sang’ness)

We sat down at various places with chair as I feel my leg is breaking.

Some photos of I stubbornly took when dear told me no photography allowed.

I love the above picture very very much =)

We were looking high and low for the J.CO doughnuts…. However, when we reached the shop, our appetites just went ‘PUFF’. They queue were so so long…roughly there are 3 lines of people waiting to buy doughnuts.
We decided to come back a few months down the road, by then the shop assistant will be eagerly waiting for us to come while keeping the flies away….keke.. =p (this is very bad)

However, without food in stomach, when we thought of the journey back to Berjaya Times Square from Pavilion, it seems like a million miles away.

What was more crazy??
We cleaned the garden when we reached home….cutting grass, sweeping grass, cleaning floor and drain, rearranging pots of plants, de-earth the 2 big serai bunches.

At night, we even contemplated to visit the reflexology centre in Len Seng but gave up when we see the prices…really nothing compared to BALI.

I asked dear “Why we so gila, walk until leg pain and now looking for reflexology?”
Dear gave me the best answer “My dear dear say want to exercise ma, I mai bring her exercise the whole day loh”

Thanks dear for accompanying me these 2 days…
I love being with you because you make me feel good being myself … even with all my ‘oh bah sang’ness

Used condoms recycled into hair bands

The Star 14/11/07 - World

Beijing : Used condoms are being recycled into hair bands in southern China, threatening to spread sexually-transmitted disease they were originally meant to prevent, state media reported yesterday.

In the latest example of potentially harmful Chinese-made products, rubber hair bands have been found in local markets and beauty salons in Donggian and Guangzhou cities, China Daily newspaper said.

"These cheap and colourful rubber bands and hair ties sell well...threatening he health of local people," it said.

Despite being recycled, the hair bands could still contain bacteria and viruses, it said.

"People could be infected with AIDS, (genital) warts or other diseases if they hold the rubber bands or strings in their mouths while waving their hair into plaits or buns," the paper quoted a local dermatologist who gave only his surname, Dong, as saying - AFP

OMG, This is just so shrewd...

All the rubber bands in the photos... I don't think I'll use them anymore.

When I have long hair, I used these kind of band most of the time ... yeah, i like the colours too but this piece of news just suddenly make me want to throw those rubber bands away.

Another reason for me to believe that I made a great decision cutting my hair short...

short hair

Benefits of short hair (to me)

1. Hair dry faster (especially if taking bath late) ... lead to no.2
2. Can sleep earlier
3. Use lesser shampoo ... save money and more environmental friendly
4. Need lesser water to rinse after wash ... save water and money
5. Lesser hair drop ... no clogging of water draining hole, no hair on bed and floor
6. Head feel lighter
7. May not need hair dryer to blow dry hair (relevant to no.1 & 2)...save electricity
8. Look younger
9. Can save money on buying hair accessories like hair clip
10. Need not worry too much about hair styling
11. Healthier hair ... after cutting away the dried end
12. Best of all, I grew to love short hair

ps. this is part of short hair advocate...also part of my attempt to entice friend of mine to try cutting short hair..hehe... (you know who you are ler) =p

I know you must be thinking ... this girl got NBTD (Nothing Better To Do) ah?

smiley sleep early

Someone I care about very much scare I don't know it's a smiley ... wrote it to remind me that smiley is with me all the time.
See, the watch...which I like very much ..
was given by the 'someone I care about very much'
The purpose :
To reminds me to SLEEP EARLY lor...

Where does the money go?

“ The monthly EPF withdrawal for housing loans will be credited directly into the contributor’s personal bank account and not to lending bank” Second Finance Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop.

Contributors need to go to the EPF to apply only once, and it would directly credit the money to contributor’s personal account.
The condition : contributor must have a housing loan.

Do you think it’s a good idea?
Will it defeat the purpose and the cash be subjected to abuse and the money will not be used properly?
Wouldn’t it be better if the monthly withdrawal be credited to the financial institution from which housing loan is taken instead of contributor’s personal account?

Sometimes I wonder whether they are trying to help lessen our burden or increase our burden??

Our pre-dinner table partner who disappear right before the dinner starts ... all because there's no leng chai at our table =p

On this (appointed/special/wondrous) day, in the presence of God, our relatives, and our friends as witnesses, I give to you my sacred vow that as your husband/wife, I will always be with you and support you
